Yamaha Corporation is a multinational corporation and conglomerate based in Japan. It is the world's largest manufacturer of musical instruments (including pianos, drums, guitars, brass instruments, woodwinds, violins, violas, celli, and vibraphones), as well as a leading manufacturer of semiconductors, audio-visual, computer related products, sporting goods, home appliances, specialty metals and industrial robots. Not only this, Yamaha also provides a place for studying music, sets opportunities for presenting one's own compositions, and creates an environment for the enjoyment of a variety of musical endeavors.

Yamaha was established in 1887 as a piano and reed organ manufacturer by Torakusu Yamaha as Nippon Gakki Company Limited in Hamamatsu, and was incorporated on October 12, 1897. In 1900, it began the production of upright pianos. 1954 was a big year for the company; it established Yamaha Music School, held pilot classes and produced its first ever Hi-Fi player. In the year 1955, Yamaha Motor Company was established. After a few years, it began producing sports equipments (1958), electronic organs (1959), lifestyle-related products (1964) and wind instruments (1965). The Yamaha Music Foundation was established in 1966, and since then, it has generated a wide range of music activities throughout global society. Strong commitment to promote music education and popularization is one of the most significant elements to distinguish Yamaha from its competitors. In 1987, the company changed its name from Yamaha to Yamaha Corporation to mark 100 years in business. In the beginning of the 21st century, it established Yamaha Music & Electronics Company Limited. It acquired Steinberg Media Technologies in the year 2005, and L. Bösendorfer Klavierfabrik GmbH in the year 2008. The company completed a glorious 125 years in business in the year 2012. It now owns 44 subsidiaries and representative offices in overseas markets in addition to numerous related companies in Japan. Hence, over the years, Yamaha has endeavored to produce products and services that satisfy the diverse needs and desires of people worldwide.

Some significant milestones in Yamaha’s history include the YSP-2200 and the YPG-625, both of which were given “Keyboard of the Year" and "Product of the Year" awards in 2007 from The Music and Sound Retailer magazine. Another noteworthy Yamaha electronic includes the SHS-10 Keytar, a consumer priced keytar which offers MIDI output features. Not only these, but all other products and services under the brand name of Yamaha are highly regarded by a large number of professionals, institutions, business people within the related industries, and consumers.

Therefore, since its establishment, Yamaha has very truly stood to its slogan of “Sharing Passion & Performance”.
