Marantz is a company that develops and sells high-end audio products. It was founded in New York, but is now based in Japan. Marantz has only one philosophy: "Because Music Matters."
Saul Marantz’s talent for industrial design and his ability to infuse talented engineers like Sidney Smith, with his vision resulted in legendary products. He ensured that his company would remain a premiere name in the industry he helped establish.
The first Marantz audio product was designed and built by Saul Marantz in his home in Kew Gardens, New York. In 1966, the company started manufacturing its products in Japan through a partnership with Standard Radio Corporation. After a few years, in 1974, a manufacturing plant was opened on the Péronnes-lez-Binche site, Walloon Region. This was a decade of intense growth and expansion, fueled by imaginative product development and demanding quality standards. In the year 1982, consumer digital audio became a reality in North America, and Marantz’s CD-63, the first publicly announced CD player, led the way. The company entered the 20th century with the energy and dedication that came from restored corporate unity. Sadly, the company lost Saul Marantz in the year 1997. In the beginning of the 21st century, Marantz Japan Inc. acquired the brand from Philips and owned all overseas sales subsidiaries. Soon, Marantz Japan and Denon merged to form D&M Holdings. In 2008, Philips sold its remaining stake in D&M Holdings, ending a 28-year relationship between Philips and Marantz Audio.
